“Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.” – Micah 7:8
“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17
When I was asked to be Director for VNTB #34, I humbly accepted the call to serve and prayed about the vision God has for the weekend. I feel that God had been working behind the scenes in my life since I was a VNTB candidate in high school.
Part of the vision that God has given me is that we as sinners must recognize that we are just that, sinners. We are flawed, selfish, sinful human beings living in a dark world filled with lies, temptation, lust, greed and many other sinful desires. Many of these desires are leading God’s people even further into the trap of the enemy, but the most prominent issue I see in young people today is a lack of Godly direction and leadership. Young men and women need to BE LED so that they CAN LEAD. We, as Christians, have been born again, we are called to rise up and take a stand against the enemy.
Sometimes we allow the distractions of this life to cause us to forget that we are at war, a cultural war, a war on Christianity, a war on our beliefs and a war on our identity as children of the king. The Enemy’s message runs counter to Christ’s message for our lives: to be righteous and holy in a bold way! When we do stand up for God, we quickly realize that we are in the minority and are under enormous peer pressure to conform to the world, not the Word (Romans 12:2). This is a time in young men’s development where they are attempting to understand the world and as Christians, learn what they believe to be God’s plan for their lives. This is critical because they are looking for answers and direction. Direction that the world will lead away from our savior.
Once we as Christians acknowledge that we are saved by grace (Ephesians 2:8), we are called to be warriors for God’s kingdom. This is where the theme comes in, picture any movie/book/etc where the hero is in battle, in a fight scene where he is continuously knocked down, again and again. His enemy is strong and sometimes over powering… but does the hero quit? Does he surrender? NO. No retreat, no surrender! The hero gets back up and gets back in the fight!
That is what we as Christians are called to do. To quote Batman Begins; “Why do we fall? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up.” When we fail God, we do not truly fail Him unless we quit/give up. How do we respond to sin and circumstances in our lives? When the enemy is attacking, do we surrender? (Romans 6:1-4)
The theme that God has given me is “RISE UP WARRIORS”. “Do not gloat over me my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.” (Micah 7:8/theme verse)
My prayer is that the young men and God’s team will be empowered through God’s teaching this weekend and for us to understand that regardless of our circumstances in life, we are God’s Warriors, ready and able to do battle, to confront the enemy head on and be victorious. Christ has already won the war, we are called to fight the battles.
Additionally, we are risen in Christ, when the enemy brings us to our knees, that is where we pray. God will give us the strength to get back up and fight. God does not call the equipped, He equips the called.
The team of VNTB #34 will be equipped with the Armor of God, covered in and joined in prayer, study of God’s word and fellowship with other believers. The young men will be exposed to the potential of being a part of an unstoppable, impenetrable brotherhood of warriors. Vida Nueva is about raising up young Christians leaders. Leaders do not need to be fearless; they need to confront their fears by being brave and obedient.
I look forward to serving the candidates with God’s team April 24th-26th, 2020. Please consider serving on His team and sponsoring a young man to attend this weekend.
